Marilyn Chambers
Marilyn Chambers (1952-2009) was an actor, dancer, singer and model. One of the premier performers of the Golden Age of Erotic Films, she helped establish adult films as an art. Among her films were Behind the Green Door, Resurrection of Eve, Insatiable and Never a Tender Moment. Playboy magazine ranked her as one of the top 100 sex stars of the 20th century. Her awards included the Adult Video News Hall of Fame, the X-Rated Film Critics Organization Hall of Fame and the Adult Film Association of America Lifetime Achievement Award. Chambers had a small career outside erotic films, as well. She had roles in movies, like The Owl and the Pussycat and Rabid, starred in several minor movies, such as Breakfast in Bed and Solitaire, and appeared onstage in Le Bellybutton and Last of the Red Hot Lovers. Her disco single “Benihana” enjoyed some chart success. Most famously, she was the “Ivory Soap girl” on the Ivory Snow soap flake box.
Marilyn Chambers was a talented artist. Sadly, she was denied a larger career in non-erotic films due to the puritanical bias against adult films. As she noted, “I thought there would be a chance to cross over. Boy, was I wrong.”
