Saklava Funeral Posts

The Saklava Funeral Posts are wooden sculptures carved by the Saklava people of Madagascar. Displayed at the four corners of graves, they are often composed of a man and woman in sexual intercourse. Other poses show men with erect penises and women with open vaginas. While their meaning is uncertain, the Funeral Posts are probably an affirmation of life over death. In the twentieth century, after western tourists discovered them, the posts were also sold as souvenirs.
I loved the Saklava Funeral Posts. They are beautiful icons of Eros.
